Bioplastic is going to be the trend
Tooth brushes, bottles, telephone, cell phone, calculators and even prosthesis are all the results of the development of plastic industry. Plastic is a material made of fossil resources. Since 20th century, it has evolutional changes. Nobody could imagine what would happen if the fossil resource was run out. Scientists, specialists and designers considered that there is still a long way to go for the plastic industry.
Association of Plastics Manufacturers in Europe (APME) has reported that the global total production amount of plastic was 2.8 billion which plastic packing is one the major part. And 99.5% of it was produced by petrol, which was 4% of the global petrol production amount. The responsible person of the western district forecasted that, the plastic production would be more important to the future lives, and it would be necessary to find new raw material instead of the fossil resources. For example, a Boeing 787 plane is much lighter than it’s used to be because of the plastic content is as high as 50%.
It is said that the future plastic material would be used for conduction current. Nowadays, solar water heater manufacturers use plastic as product shell material, but scientists are trying to develop a solar battery which is totally made from plastic.
The future of plastic is promising. Scientists are developing a smart textile adding plastic could automatically to adapt the temperature, which is able to prevent from coldness and hotness.
It is predicted that plastic would be able to be made of potatoes, corns and wood within one or two centuries. Many manufacturers have been trying to produce plastic with plants. Using polylactic acid as the basis to create plastic would make a new kind which is able to be biodegradation. It is said that American has already found a way to transform plastic into crude oil, which is environmental protected and encouraging. No longer the paper packing box and wooden box would be friendly to the environment, the plastic would become one of them too.
Philippe Patrick Starck, a famous French designer, considered that humans are standing at the crossing of plastic industry. Nobody could ever imagine what would happen if the plastic was completely disappeared, especially in poor countries. The situation of plastic product recycling is annoyed because of it wasted too much farm field to do such thing. Philippe Starck has built up his empire with designs of plastic product. And at present, he is interested in an evolutional biopolymer which is with the basis of alga and totally biodegradation.
